Local Towns
The nearest town is Leek, just 3 miles from the site. Here you will find everything you should need, including supermarkets, fuel stations and eateries. Leek is a quirky little market town, with a strong focus on supporting small, local businesses. Visit Totally Locally Leek for more information and details on market days etc.
In the opposite direction is the pretty spa town of Buxton. Pavilion Gardens(parkwoodoutdoors.co.uk) is worth a visit, especially if you have little ones in tow. They have large play areas, a cafe, duck ponds and a miniature railway! There's also a swimming pool and theatre in the same area. Buxton also has the usual supermarkets, including the more high-end Waitrose and M&S food for those who prefer these.
Location & Activities
Roaches Retreat Eco Glampsite is set at the foot of The Roaches, an imposing and beautiful rocky ridge in the Peak District. The Roaches and the surrounding areas are very popular with walkers, climbers and outdoor lovers and is a very popular tourist spot.
There are miles and miles of scenic and adventurous walks and trails, suitable for various skill levels.
In the nearby village of Upperhulme you will find The Peak Climbing School who offer climbing and mountaineering coaching for individuals, families and small groups. In the same group of buildings, you will find True North Cycle Hub and Adventures, offering guided tours/adventures and coaching in both mountain biking and e-bikes.
A short drive away from the site is Tittesworth Reservoir with scenic walks around the water, a large children's playground and restaurant/cafe. On the far side of the reservoir is Tittesworth Water Sports where you can have a go at various activities, including canoeing and SUP.
For those who want even more excitement, the famous Alton Towers Resort is just a 30 minute drive from the site.
Eating Out
For tea and a full English in the morning, head to Upperhulme and the Roaches Tea Rooms & Restaurant. Here you will also find home made cakes and meals, with indoor and outdoor seating and stunning views.
The nearest pub is Ye Olde Rock Inn, just 5 minutes on foot. A friendly and welcoming country inn serving high quality, home cooked food in a relaxed atmosphere.
Three Horseshoes Leek is also within easy walking distance, with high quality food and lovely beer garden with a small play area. There is also a spa with outdoor hydrotherapy pool and unique 'beach hut experience', which mimics the experience of sitting on a beach in the sun!
In the nearby village of Meerbrook, close to Tittesworth Water, is The Lazy Trout, a popular pub both with locals and visitors to the area.
Last, but not least, a hearty meal can be enjoyed at the The Winking Man, a great pub to include as a stop on a walk around the Roaches back to the glampsite.
